King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Tips

One of the mid-season racing highlights is being held at Ascot on Saturday.

Minding, Order Of St George and US Army Ranger may well all missing from the Aidan O’Brien’s stable, and of course Postponed, but there’s still plenty of juicy opportunities in this one.

The KING GEORGE VI AND QUEEN ELIZABETH STAKES is the centre-piece on a busy day of action over the country.

In truth, this race looks like one of the weakest renewals for many a year with plenty of withdrawals but that doesn’t affect its status as a betting heat.

Our eyes are firmly fixed on the chances of WINGS OF DESIRE for John Gosden, who has won this race twice in the last five years and both horses had a similar profile to the selection in that he’s a progressive three-year-old.

After an impressive showing in the Dante Stakes, Wings Of Desire was well fancied for the Derby but inexperience and failing to handle the contours of Epsom hampered his progress.

He ran a huge race to finish fourth but was admittedly beaten a fair way.

But rarely does Gosden get it wrong when pitching top-class horses into these types of races and he has to have a huge chance, and with 4/1 around in places that price is plenty big enough.

He’s one of four horses I’m backing across Saturday.

The best bet of the day is arguably Manson in the 3:20 at Ascot.

This is a horse I’m convinced will win a big race off his current mark.

The way he scampered clear at Sandown two starts ago suggests he will. If you can forgive him his last run at Newmarket, where he didn’t handle the track, then he’s a big player.

The 12/1 on offer certainly interests me and its one which has decent each way claims.

The booking of Paul Hanagan is eye catching aboard the chances of Farlow at York at 3:00 – he’s due a win soon  and appeals at 6/1– while Kimberella must have a very good chance in the 4:10 at York.

He’s been a model of consistency this season with a couple of solid seconds to his name lately.

In a race that lacks a handicap good thing he’s drawn to go well for Franny Norton and can produce a decent return for us at around 6/1.
